About Me
I am a senior researcher at Fujitsu Laboratories Europe (FLE), in the Services and Solutions Research Division. I joined FLE in April 2009 and my work focuses on Cloud computing, systems integration and management, service-oriented platforms, cloud standardization efforts, and more.

Before Fujitsu, I was a Research Fellow at the University of Westminster in London, were I also finished my PhD in 2007. There I worked mainly in the area of Grid and Pervasive Computing as well as parallel computing, mobile computing and other related areas. I have worked for two very successful European projects in the last four years: CoreGRID and GridCOMP.

I also have a blog that I update on a regular basis (”Journey through a Burning Mind“) dedicated to my non-professional interests, which include the physical sciences, pseudosciences, and discussions on the borders of religion and science -with the occasional hint of music related news and events.

Greece 1980-2002

I grew up in Thessaloniki the capital of Macedonia, Greece. I was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1980 as my parents spent there almost three years until 1982 when we moved to Thessaloniki. My father, Achilleas, was working there in an infrastructure project as a civil engineer. He is from Thessaloniki while my mother, Despoina is from Crete. I also have two siblings, a sister, Eleni, who was born in 1976 in Kozani, and my younger brother, Michael, born in 1989 in Thessaloniki.

In Greece I earned a place in the Computer Science department of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (TEI). The course spanned four years and included six months of work placement which I spent in the United Nations Centre in Thessaloniki. I finished my course achieving 86% and having gathered loads of experiences. I then immediately left for London for postgraduate studies.

London 2002-today

I did my MSc course in Computing and Internet Systems in King’s College, London. I managed to get my degree with distinction achieving (again) 86%, with emphasis in Software Engineering for Internet Systems, and large scale distributed computing.

In September 2003 I met with Prof. Vladimir Getov to discuss the possibility of joining his research group (Distributed and Intelligent Systems Group). Everything went well and so I started my PhD on February the next year (2004). I submitted my Thesis in July 2007 and successfully defended it on the 5th of November same year!

In the mid of 2007 I started working as a Research Associate, mainly in the GridCOMP project, while right after my PhD defence I got a Research Fellow position in the University and focused fully in my work for GridCOMP.

After the end of the GridCOMP project, I was contacted by Fujitsu Laboratories Europe for a senior role in their Services and Solutions Research Division. I joined Fujitsu at the very end of March 2009, and I am part of a 6 strong group lead by Dr. David Snelling.
