“Skeptics in the Pub” is exactly what the name suggests -a group of skeptics that meet once a month in a pub in London. Plus, they get to listen to a renowned skeptic talking about a relevant subject. And this time, today, it was Nick Davies taking on the ever popular Bad Media issue. There, I just explained the title of this post.

Two full centuries ago, a man was born who would set out to change the landscape of the biological sciences forever. Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) is rightly considered one of the top scientists ever to set foot on our tiny and insignificant planet. His enquiring and resilient nature saw him embark on a magnificent journey towards understanding what all of us are struggling to comprehend: life itself!

Carl Sagan is no longer here to take on the pseudoscientific charlatans that seem to have flooded the web lately. But thankfully, a significant and constantly rising number of skeptics and rational thinkers are trying to counter the waves of nonsense. Two such prominent figures in the blogosphere (and outside) are Andy Lewis and Prof. David Colquhoun.

Le Canard Noir (or the Little Black Duck :-) but in reality Andy Lewis) and Prof. David Colquhoun, will be talking at the Oxford Town Hall today at 14.15. Andy Lewis runs the Quackometer, while Prof. David Colquhoun is one of the most active opponents of pseudoscientific medicine in the UK. Today, they will both try to teach us “How to Detect when Some One is talking Bull****“!

M83 took time off their official tour -supporting Kings of Leon (?!), to play a one-off gig at the St. Giles-in-the-Fields church in London! Videos and photos below the fold.

Following hot on the heels of the Sigur Ros live on Friday, yesterday (Saturday) I went to Luminaire to see Piano Magic. From the huge, impersonal Sigur Ros concert of 8000 attendees, down to the 60-70 people in close contact with the French-English purveyors of fine radiophonic sounds!

Here I am, after midnight, fresh from the experience of Sigur Ros live at the Alexandra Palace! And what is the first thing I do? Take care of my (three) readers! I have just uploaded a number of photos. Here is a video I took as well.

M83
It was some time since I went to a live I thoroughly enjoyed. But last night was exactly that. M83 delivered a particularly energetic and trippy set that had me smiling happy at the end.
