A fascinating book I am currently reading is
Roger Penrose’s “
The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe.”
Penrose starts from the fundamental mathematics required in order to absorb the full wonder of modern physics. True, it is perhaps a bit too much mathematics for the inexperienced, but necessary to stand in awe when confronted with the magic of
General Relativity,
Quantum Mechanics, and the class of
String Theories! He provides a complete journey towards understanding the way our Universe works in a whopping 1140 pages, complete with a series of exercises, descriptive figures, and an extended use of cross-references that make it (relatively) easy to jump back and forth to consolidate a particular subject.
Along with
Richard Feynman’s “
Lectures on Physics” they’re probably the best complete guides to Physics from two excellent scientists and communicators.
