Talk about abstract paintings!
It’s OK to find refuge for weird paintings and art generally under the umbrella term of “Abstract” but I think this one has crossed the line!

Abstraction

In case you cannot read the label it says: “Red Square: Painterly Realism of a Peasant Woman in Two Dimensions“!

Realism?!? It’s a RED SQUARE! I mean, what is the next step in abstraction? The frame only?

I am still looking at this astonishing :) red square to find this peasant woman. We know Mr Malevich is a great in Russian avant-garde art, but on a serious side I still can’t locate his ‘Suprematism’

“In what now looks like a masterly stroke of avant-garde self-mystification, he reported that he could not sleep, eat, or drink for an entire week after he finished the painting.” I wonder why??!! I am sure it took a lot of brain neurons to create something astonishing as so called “Square”

Don’t get me started on Black Square; I don’t see any abstraction to its ultimate geometric simplification
Whoaaa! You got it wrong there Smith! The Black Square represents the melancholy of the peasant women in the midst of the middle age social turmoils. It is a symbol of depression and female submission to the dominant male species of the time. You MUST try to understand the deeper meaning of the Black Square if you can.

Now, the Red Square on the other hand is indeed a fraud. Just another exploitation attempt; an effort to make money misusing the all-excusing term “Abstract”. Makes you wonder how shameless some self-declared “artists” can be…
Yes, indeed Stavros so called ‘meaning’ is there that completes the picture. Followed by “words” that simply added to a ‘black square’.

Black square can represent purely anything we see on a picture it’s all depends on a viewer it is the different views of understanding of the concepts of both ‘blackness’ and ‘squareness’. We have now accompany black squares in everyday life which can define any meaning, ‘computer screen’ one of the astonishing if we say so black squares exist which can bring with simple ‘ON’ an era of 0101010’s. I must say it is the art of cyber era.

I am sure there is someone will continue Malevich journey by creating alienated pictures which would bring different meaning, today is a ‘red square’ tomorrow a simple void of a ‘white square’

By ending all I can say it is the’ individuality’ through your own eyes and we as individuals will understand the true meaning. Someone will see a simple geometrical square, others might see a true art. Plus ‘black squares’ will always continue to serve for melancholy. Everyone see an art of beauty in different way. Therefore different meaning and different criticism will come on its way
first of all Stavros, may i take this moment to say to you what a wonderfull website you have here, i am new to these blogs and have been truly amazed by the posts you have written,

this one got me thinking though, and thought to myself what a wonderful painting we have here in front of ourselves… i mean we are truly struck when a painting as such appears here, i mean it is one to first of all make us stare a few times at the “red square” to actually try and find the peasant woman within the colour (looking for a similar image blended into the red square)… obviously being let down at the end and giving up looking. also as the name suggests it is only an abstract piece which has been created by the artist.

Smith, as you have stated the black square did get me thinking too as you said, it is a rendition of the artists mood at the time of creating such image… which I truly agree!

look at it this way - a black square to me would show the dark deep down mood the artist was in and maybe they were not having such a great day!… also looking at the shape in general you see sharp edges which show a meaning of anger and strength, the typical characteristics of a negative vibe.

ok i thinki i may be talking too much now, Stavros, keep up the good work on these and keep them coming… i for one love the blogs you create!

and Smith i found your comment about the 10101010 very enterprising… and as you said “Everyone see an art of beauty in different way”… that is a very true saying which i beleive in being new to modern art and art history.

Thanks again Stavros and Smith for the ideas and thoughts.
Carlos thanks for the kind words and the comment. Glad you liked some of my posts. I kind of agree with you and Smith on this potentially new cyber (or digital) art era. It might be interesting to see how it evolves.
Yes Stavros, i am sure there is going to be a boom in the amount of Abstract art being processed through recent times… specially at art that leads on from the totally abstract viewpoints of the artist… we may even see a whole new era of digital art as you said

Im sure we will just have to wait and see wont we?

By the way, Stavros have i just contributed to a new blog we can discuss… “the evolution of the digital art era!”… what is your opinion on the evolution that may take place in the years to come regarding Art and its digital/cyber revolution.

Keep up the good work Stavros
