This is bad. This is really bad. And this is only one of the really many things that religion imposes on humanity. Which sane parent would do this to their child? No sane parent I answer. Only highly deluded, religiously brainwashed, mentally retarded fundamentalists…
Despite scientists swearing on the safety of the Large Hadron Collider, two men have filled lawsuit (!) to prevent it from going operational, amidst fears that a black hole that could devour the Earth might be generated in the experiments!
A short break (not from work but rather a change of scenery) in Greece coincided with a series of streaks to oppose the new insurance and pension laws currently being discussed. So: piles of garbage in the streets (by the way this kind of streaks should be illegal), electricity power cuts, reduced public services (well, okay this is the typical state) and more, conspired towards an appalling state of the city that made me want to go back to London as soon as possible!
Andy Lewis from the Quackometer has got it spot on with his critique on Alternative Forms of Treatment for Animals! Animals have indeed been used as a “proof” that alternative treatments (such as homeopathy) are efficient in treating conditions because, well, animals have no idea what placebo is and therefor homeopathy cannot be placebo!
Here is an interesting one from Scientific American: smoking does not make you happy in general. In fact it pretty much does the opposite. One only feels happy when lighting a cigarette because he/she is feeding his/her addition! Listen to the podcast for more.
As LiveScience reported, an ancient Greek site was recently discovered in the North East shoreline of Peloponnisos. It is ancient harbor town of the glorious Mycenaean civilization (around 1600-1100 B.C) and is believed to have been a military outpost.
Uri Geller is the guy with the magical psychic powers that can bend spoons with his mind. Obviously the guy is a fraud, not in performing all his “supernatural” acts -that is perfectly okay for entertainment. But in that he insists that he does everything due to his supernatural powers and psychic abilities! Especially when he has been exposed so many, many times! Sp, here is a small number of his lamest ever “tricks” for your entertainment. And you be the judge whether this guy is a fraud or he indeed uses his superhuman psychic powers for the noble purpose of… bending a lousy spoon!
The 82nd Skeptics’ Circle is hosted at Happy Jihad’s House of Pancakes (!) and is packed with interesting posts ranging from tackling irrational alternative medicine claims and psychics and spirits, all the way to evolution misinterpretations and religion-science conflicts. Must see.
