Quiet please! You’re at the London Luminaire…
I’ve been at the London Luminaire on a couple of occasions so far. The first one was back in April 2006 to see Model Army, Televise and Mark Gardener (ex-Ride) live.

It was my first experience of this great live venue -not very big, good arrangements, good lighting and sound. I must admit I am not a fan of big venue lives, although I did enjoy Smashing Pumpkins stadium live back in 2001 in Bologna, as well as most of the festivals I’ve been to -but for many other reasons… I have experienced my very best live gigs in smaller venues, where the atmosphere is much warmer, the connection with the band much stronger, and there is this certain community feeling. Not necessarily in a “we’re few and good” mentality but you get the point…
Quiet Sign
Please LEAVE!!!

London Luminaire is pretty much like that -at least on the nights I’ve attended. In a relatively dodgy area, as Kilburn is supposed to be, Luminaire can provide a sanctuary and a platform for great musical journeys.

The Times magazine has labeled Luminaire as the live venue of the year 2005/06. For all those reasons. All those plus one more: the single best ever sign I have seen! “We’re a live venue, not a pub. If you’ve come to chat to your pals when the bands are on, you’re in the wrong place. PLEASE LEAVE”!!!

This sign alone, has placed Luminaire top of my list of London venues…
